Foreign words in Katakana
Japanese has lots of English loan words, usually written in Katakana. However, when applied to Japanese, many of these Japanese-English terms are used to convey a meaning quite different from the English origin. For example; a Japanese "manshon" refers to a medium or high-ris e apartment, flat or condominium, while in English "mansion" usually means a huge residence.
