冬と春を分ける日です。2月3日前後です。「鬼は外、福は内」と大声で言いながら豆を投げる「豆まき」や、イワシという魚を食べる風習があります。

This is the day that marks the change from winter to spring. It is usually on or around February 3. Customs on this day include the eating of a fish called "iwashi" (a Japanese pilchard) and a tradition called "mamemaki", where people throw beans while shouting "demons out, good luck in!" to drive away evil spirits.
