七五三は子供の成長を祈る行事です。女の子は3歳と7歳、男の子は3歳と5歳に祝います。子供たちはきれいなきものや服を着て、神社に行きます。そして、長寿を意味する「千歳飴」という細長い飴をもらいます。
The Seven-Five-Three-Festival is an event to pray for the growth of children. Girls celebrate the year they become 3 and 7 years old, whereas for boys it's 3 and 5. The children wear pretty clothes or KIMONOs and go to a shrine. There they receive a kind of stick candy called "chitose-ame", (1000-year candy) which signifies longevity.
